Q. How do I produce the transfer files in Strucad, Tekla Structures and the Kingspan detailing program?
A. StruCad – Select; Cam Data > Cold-Rolled > Wards
Tekla Structures – Select model and run ‘File Transfer’ in the ‘Metl-Con’ macro bar
Kingspan Detailing – Exit all detailing screens and select; File > Export Project Transfer File
Q. What files do I need to send to Kingspan?
A.
StruCad - Kingspan requests that you send in the transfer file (.wdo), the summary file (.ccf/.html) and that you send any drawings to us in PDF format.
Tekla Structures - Kingspan requests that you send in the transfer file (.wdx), the METL-CONReport.log, METL-CONError.log, assembly_list.xsr (this needs to be created manually) and that you send any drawing to us in PDF format.
Kingspan Detailing - Kingspan requests that you send in the transfer file (.WTX)
Q. How do I send the transfer information to Kingspan?
A. Kingspan prefer that you send the file as an attachment to an e mail addressed to the customer service operative.alternatively the file can be sent via mail on a floppy disc.
Q. What is the material specification for Multibeam and Multichannel?
A. Kingspan Multibeam is manufactured from Hot Dip galvanised steel to BS EN 10326:2004 and BS EN 10143:1993 'specifications for continuously hot dip zinc/metal coated structural steel strip'.
The minimum grade steel used is S450GD, with Z275 zinc coating, giving an average coating thickness of 0.002mm to each side. Other galvanised coatings may be available. Please contact our Technical Department for advice.
Q. Can I get Multibeam with a heavier galavanised coating?
A. Yes to special order - the coating weight is 600 grams per sq m (sum of both sides).
Q. How many sleeves do I need, using the Multibeam double and single span end bay system?
A. Multibeam only needs one sleeve per run of purlins when it is used as double span and single span end bays as shown in the literature P128.
Q. What does the Multibeam/Multichannel reference mean?
A. The M denotes a Multibeam and the L denotes a Multichannel, The 175 is the section depth in mm, the 065 is the flange depth in mm and the 130 is the section gauge (e.g. 130 = 1.3mm)
E.g. M175065130/L175075130
Q. What is the material specification for Kingspan Multideck?
A. Kingspan Multideck - V2 is manufactured from galvanised steel to BS EN 10326 2004 & BS EN 10143 1993. For MD60 - V2, MD80 - V2 & MD50- V2 the steel specification is S350GD, std galvanised coating is 275grams per sq m (sum of both sides).
Q. Does Kingspan Multideck need to be attached to the beams using shear studs?
A. Shear studs are used to bond the steel beam to the composite slab to form a composite beam so if the design does not use composite beams then shear studs may not be required. Check with the engineer. In unusual cases shear studs are used to increase the shear bond of the concrete with the steel deck.
Q. Can I use fibre re-enforced concrete with Kingspan Multideck?
A. Kingspan have undertaken extensive test work with Bekeart, the producer of Dramix steel fibres, resulting in a fully tested solution using Kingspan Multideck and Dramix. Contact Kingspan for details.
Q. Can I use Multibeam on large spans above 11 meters?
A. Yes the Kingspan Multibeam range extends to 350 deep members. Which can provide solutions above 11 metres.
Q. Do you have design tools to help me select your products?
A. Yes, request a copy of the Kingspan Toolkit CD, the most comprehensive solution from any supplier, which features wind analysis, Multibeam, Multichannel and Multideck design and the Kingspan detailing software. These programmes are also available to download separately direct from the Kingspan structural website.
Q.What are the minimum requirements for the Toolkit software?
A.
Processor: Pentium II 300 MHz or equivalent
Memory: 128 MB
Disk Space: Toolkit
Front-end - 20 MB
Multibeam Design & Breeve - 235 MB
Multichannel Design - 30 MB
Multideck Design - 30 MB
Detailing Wizard - 95 MB
Note: These figures should only be treated as a guide and may differ due to factors including the version of Windows, the Windows virtual memory settings and the amount of physical memory installed in the machine.
Q. How do I install or upgrade to the latest version of Toolkit?
A. The Toolkit setup/upgrade process may start automatically when you insert the Toolkit CD, if not, select the Run option from the start menu and type D:\setup followed by return (where D is the letter representing your CD drive).
