Q. How do I produce the transfer files in Strucad, X Steel and the Kingspan detailing program?

A. Strucad - Run coldcam and select Ward X Steel - select Ward and run transfer file Ward DP close all detailing screens and select export transfer file.

Q. What are the file extensions for Strucad, X Steel and the Kingspan detailing Program?

Q. How do I send the transfer file to Kingspan?

A. Kingspan prefer that you send the file as an attachment to an e mail addressed to the customer service operative.alternatively the file can be sent via mail on a floppy disc.

Q. What is the material specification for Multibeam and Multichannel?

A. Kingspan Multibeam is manufactured from galvanised steel to BS EN 10147 :2000 & BS EN 10143 1993. The steel specification is Fe E350G, std galvanised coating is 275grams per sq m (sum of both sides) - page 35 of publication P128.

Q. Can I get Multibeam with a heavier galavanised coating?

A. Yes to special order - the coating weight is 600 grams per sq m (sum of both sides).

Q. How many sleeves do I need, using the Multibeam double and single span end bay system?

A. Multibeam only needs one sleeve per run of purlins when it is used as double span and single span end bays as shown in the literature P128.

Q. What does the Multibeam reference mean?

A. A typical reference is P175150. The P denotes a Multibeam, The 175mm is the section depth, the 150 is the gauge in mm x 100 ie in this example the gauge is 1.50mm. All Multibeam sections have a 60mm flange.

Q. Using Multibeam what sag system should be used on a roof pitch of 3° to 5°?

A. Shear studs are used to bond the steel beam to the composite slab to form a composite beam so if the design does not use composite beams then shear studs may not be required. Check with the engineer.In unusual cases shear studs are used to increase the shear bond of the concrete with the steel deck.

Q. What is the material specification for Kingspan Multideck?

A. Kingspan Multideck - V2 is manufactured from galvanised steel to BS EN 10326 2004 & BS EN 10143 1993. For MD60 - V2, MD80 - V2 & MD50- V2 the steel specification is S350GD, std galvanised coating is 275grams per sq m (sum of both sides).

Q. Does Kingspan Multideck need to be attached to the beams using shear studs?

A. Shear studs are used to bond the steel beam to the composite slab to form a composite beam so if the design does not use composite beams then shear studs may not be required. Check with the engineer.In unusual cases shear studs are used to increase the shear bond of the concrete with the steel deck.

Q. Can I use fibre re-enforced concrete with Kingspan Multideck?

A. Kingspan have undertaken extensive test work with Bekeart the producer of Dramix steel fibres resulting in a fully tested solution using MD60 and Dramix. Contact Kingspan for details.

Q. Can I use Multibeam on large spans above 11 meters?

A. Yes the Kingspan Multibeam range extends to 350 deep members. Which can provide solutions above 11 meters.

Q. Do you have design tools to help me select your products?

A. Yes, request a copy of the Kingspan Toolkit software, the most comprehensive solution from any supplier featuring wind analysis, Multibeam, Multichannel and Multidek design plus literature and the Kingspan wizard detailing software.

Q.What are the minimum requirements for the Toolkit software?

Q. How do I install or upgrade to the latest version of Toolkit?

A. The Toolkit setup/upgrade process may start automatically when you insert the Toolkit CD, if not, select the Run option from the start menu and type D:\setup followed by return (where D is the letter representing your CD drive). Once started, simply follow the setup's on-screen instructions to install or upgrade the Toolkit menu. Having installed the latest Toolkit menu, selection of its menu options will check for, and if needed install or upgrade to, the latest version of the chosen option.

Q. What is the maximum gauge available in the Multichannel range?

A. The maximum gauge available is 2.7 mm. Please contact Kingspan Metl-con sales team for availability and prices.
